IB 5
Yolo should be promoted to be used in positive ways. Famous people should start to used yolo when they are doing cool and uplifting things. The famous people should start using yolo when doing positive things will definitely challenge an audience. One cannot make someone say something they don't want to. The Constitution's First Amendment tells us that. Of course it is impractical to try and get every famous person to participate in making yolo a positive thing, but if you could get a group of really famous and liked stars to start the movement then it could really make a difference. A sad example of the use of yolo is when people drink and drive. Yolo can make people feel invinsible and that they can withstand anything. These stars who start the yolo campaign could talk about the dangers of drinking and driving, and then state things they do in their lives that are spontaneous. For example hiking to watch the sun rise or zip lining etc. Drinking and driving is a serious problem that kills so many people. It would be great if role models could discourage it so that more people can be safe.

This sounds really good so far. I might suggest possible others than just "famous people." What if general citizens took it upon themselves to demonstrate positive use of YOLO. Why should we assume that only popular culture influences the use of YOLO when the bigger desire to use YOLO will come from our peers. I mean to say two things with this, (A) you have not reached the right audience to present this idea to. The readers are not anyone who can get actively involved with the issue. But if you change it just slightly, or hit on this point you will have target the right audience better, and created something that the readers can do, right now it's like, that sounds great but I can't do anything about this.
ReplyDeleteI think this is your enthymeme: Getting famous people to use YOLO in a productive manner to promote positivity actions. I think it is a great argument, but i think there are several others that you could talk about too. I think having just this one is very limiting, and like Alex mentioned, what about the general population; seeing as how they account for more than the celebrities, shouldn't they take it upon themselves to promote YOLO in a positive way? Just keep that in mind if you don't decide to focus on the general population as well; it may come up as a counter argument.
ReplyDeleteI think its sounds great so far you have some really good thoughts and expressions. You should look at things other then just famous people tho! I think you should also look at kids more in college because i know in the fraternity world it is used everyday all the time. I think you need to maybe look at a different audience and maybe try and be more open to all the different audience and people. I really like the topic tho YOLO is used every where and has become very popular over the past year. I remember the first time someone said it now everyone around me is saying it.
